A Letter from Lindy Sept 17

Beloved Pilgrims,

Gosh, I hated stepping away last weekend, after having just returned from a month’s restful sabbatical. Upon return, I must share that I am so grateful the Sabbatical Committee encouraged me to stay the course, for I am better having immersed myself in the study and conversation we had.

I didn’t know what to expect other than what I gathered from the itinerary: that we would have a full, deep, intense weekend under the careful shepherding of the incredible staff at the Holocaust Museum. Even as I write this sentence, it does not do justice to the wisdom, expertise and caring of our weekend guides. As they live daily researching, writing, teaching, connecting folks from across the globe with/to the unfathomable horrors of the Holocaust, we could not have been entrusted to better hands, hearts and minds.

In meetings this week, wonderful Pilgrims have asked me to share and/or give a synopsis from this weekend. I am still trying to process the magnitude of the responsibility I have from what I experienced. I say that knowing turning my feelings into concrete action was the goal of our hosts. Our commitment to the Program and our hosts is to bring our conversation and questions back to Durham to engage the broader community, so that together we might bear witness and push against the current strains of anti-Semitism that continue to grow in our place and time.

see you in a few days,
