A Letter from Lindy April 13

Pilgrims,

Where has Lent gone?! I still feel the hint of glitter ash cross on my forehead, as it marked our entry into this season. A season I personally seek each year because it draws me into deeper contemplation of my relationship with and call of the Divine. I may not always like the images into which I gaze, but I am always grateful for the invitation to change, grow, and cast aside the movements of my life that do not reflect holy light. And we cannot go much deeper than with Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem during this holiest of weeks. Whether we cover his path with palms or coats (depending upon the gospel author) this Sunday, we are asked to face the very human landscape of our emotions and actions in complicity, denial, fear and flight.

We will do just that on Maundy Thursday at 5:30, around the Table with Jesus at his Last Supper. Stepping into his story, we will learn ways in which we can breathe into our current moment to help shore up our mental, spiritual and emotional well-being, much as the disciples needed to in that moment, so they could carry on his ministry. As inheritors of Jesus’ mission in our place and time, we must do the same.

Easter Sunday, I pray the rhythm of our trifecta is well known–Sunrise Service, 8am in the Columbarium; Breakfast, 8:40ish in Fellowship Hall; Easter Cantata, 10:30am, Sanctuary. I hope you feel called to join all three. Oh, and silly me! I forgot our Easter Egg Hunt to round out the morning.

As much as I want to linger in the garden with Mary, I will ask you to mark your calendars for Sunday, April 27, 9am. As we bask in resurrection’s light, we will roll up our sleeves once again for a Worshipful Work Sunday to tend to this glorious campus entrusted to our care. There will be work for all ages, both inside and out. So come dressed for sweat and camaraderie. We will begin in the sanctuary with song and prayer and then be commissioned and blessed for the work at hand from 9:30am-11:30am. The Trustees will direct our efforts this day and we will conclude with a community lunch. In the days to come, there will be a sign up sheet so that we know how many Pilgrims to prepare for.

Sometimes after a bewildering journey with Jesus, it feels right to get our bodies moving and our hands dirty, and then be able to look back and say, “well done, good and faithful servants!”
