Over My Head ... I Hear Music
On February 1st and 8th, Pilgrims visited United Church of Chapel Hill to hear Professor Grover Wilson, Jr., music professor at NCCU, speak about the history and impact of Negro spirituals on American culture. Then we were lucky enough to practice singing spirituals under Prof. Wilson’s expert direction. Pilgrims who participated included Maggie and Alice Dolbow, Lucy Rozier, Susan Barco and Dan Barco. We learned to sing “Over My Head”, “I’ve been ‘buked”, “Go Down Moses”, and “He is King of Kings”.
