A Letter from Lindy Feb 19

Hi Pilgrims,

What a meaningful send-off we gave Julie as we embraced her with our love for all of the ways she has been such a stalwart leader and friend for Pilgrim. I am grateful for her boundless willingness to say yes when need arises.

With joy, I invite you to welcome our new music ministry into our unfolding story. Ali Carnes has been a dear Pilgrim friend for years (via Roman), holding us with grace and care as we grieved in the aftermath of his leave taking as our interim. I am delighted she feels called to join us anew in a more permanent role. Additionally marveling at Pilgrim’s unexpected luck in receiving Kyle Ballentine into our embrace as our accompanist. Not to put too much pressure on them, but their presence among us does feel a little transfiguration ;) We will welcome and install them in their respective ministries on Sunday.

Our timing for their first Sunday was to allow us to sing Alleluia to God’s movement in and through this beloved community before we tuck our Alleluias away for our Lenten journey. As we deepen the intentionality of our steps, we know the journey ahead is fraught with perilous decisions of what it means to truly follow Jesus. One of our intentions is to live boldly in our understanding of God’s inclusive embrace for all of God’s beloved creatures and creation through our Glitter + Ash service on Wednesday, February 22 at 6pm. This is our fourth year of using this sacred ritual to let the world know that we are LGBTQ-affirming Christians. We are in the pews, in the pulpits and give glitter ashes to affirm and celebrate many who may have been rejected by a church. There are millions of Christians who join us in believing that the Gospel commands us to love, not hate. Glitter ashes are our witness to an inclusive Christian message.

I hope you will join us to receive the glittery mark of the cross on your foreheads to begin the 40 days of reflection and repentance in preparation for Easter.

with love and hope,
