Letter from Lindy March 27

Hello Pilgrims,

Deep in the planning for Holy Week, I read a phrase that has me pondering. Lent is the season of mercy. Not how it is usually understood, I was intrigued. The author’s brush strokes concluded“...because mercy is not just Lent’s origin story. It is the foundation of our faith and this is the time the church sets aside for us to prepare for it. Why? Because Easter will come, whether we’re ready or not, and mercy will be shown! Whether we’re ready or not. We’re learning now because come Easter, it is time to do it. On Easter, the unlovable is changed and it is time for us to be changed too. By love to love.” I need to hold onto the idea that the work of Lent is preparing ourselves for mercy. To receive mercy and/or to give it.

It is grace and mercy I seek as I failed to share Sunday that I was stepping away for a week. As I hope you saw by way of Felix’s email, I am ensconced in Orlando for a visit with Thompson, Jake and Lennox and to plan for how we are going to commemorate the one year anniversary of Lanny’s death. As two peas in a pod, Thompson and I hate both surprises and not having a plan, especially when we know what we are stepping into will be emotional. So with both of those boxes checked, we are imagining how to move through the second weekend in June.

I am grateful for Ellen Metcalf’s willingness to help lead worship and offer you God’s word for Sunday. She has the wonderfully challenging task of doing so while also energizing the Pilgrim base for Crop Walk. Tall order that she will faithfully execute. I know you will surround her with love and support… and sign up to walk :)

As I am not with you, I will not presume to fill this page with thoughts about the week and the unfolding events and activities coming your way, but please scroll through this newsletter to learn about all of the ways you can plug in and reconnect with your Pilgrim family.

with gratitude,
