Letter from Lindy April 10
Hello Pilgrims,
We are a flurry today getting ready for the closing interactive worship conversation for our Lenten series tonight. Trying to set up while keeping an eye on the skies, for April showers dominate the forecast. Such is our planning these days with a hope for outdoor settings, yet contingency for indoor adaptation, while honoring our COVID protocols. Juggling events has become an artform.
Tonight’s worship is but a foretaste for our Maundy Thursday service, which we also hope to host outside on the patio. From Palms to Ashes is our theme as we gather around a fire to pray, sing, share stories, break bread and fellowship just as the disciples did, around a Table with their Rabbi, that one last time before the powers and principalities of the empire tried to squelch the Jesus movement. Our Easter story reminds us of just how mistakenly the political and religious establishment underestimated Holy Incarnate power to disrupt and dismantle the status quo of privilege at the expense of those on the margin. A lesson we need over and again, we workers of God’s harvest. Won’t you join us April 14 at 7pm—and bring an outdoor chair to create a beloved campfire circle.
Sunday marks Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, palms waving in our hands, alleluias chorusing from our mouths. The pinnacle of our hope for the triumph of the Jesus movement over and against all that oppresses God’s people. It is challenging to hold in tension that hope against the pain of scripture’s passion story. But we must, for through our tears, and fears, and denials and guilt, God beckons to draw us through. Nothing we put in God’s way prohibits God’s reach, God’s love, for us. How important that we mark Jesus’ tension by becoming his feet—walking in solidarity for and with the food insecure through Crop Walk. I pray you have signed up to walk—as part of the masses or virtually. However you are able to join, please be part of the Pilgrim team. Your participation is crucial to our continued success in raising awareness and monies to address this pressing injustice.
Finally, a note on adaptation of schedules. As you know, we have allowed Franklin to work from home on Thursdays through pandemic, assisting in defraying the cost of his commute by one day. This week, Franklin was offered another part time employment in the field of his passion. We want to support this endeavor, so we have adjusted his Pilgrim hours to Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday each week, allowing him to work in his new position on Mondays and Thursdays. The number of his hours with us stay the same, just a shift of day and duration. You can anticipate him being in the office from 9am-4pm (ish) on his Pilgrim days. Please help me support him in this new endeavor.
until Sunday,
