A Letter from Lindy Nov 27

Hello Pilgrims,
I pray you are in the deep of Thanksgiving preparation, however your gathering will unfold. Whether you are traveling or receiving and/or keeping it big or small, my hope is that you feel God’s presence amidst. My heart is working to get there as my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter arrived yesterday. Baby joyous giggles and lurch-like walking do help assuage a hurting heart for the LGBTQIA community, most specifically that tight knit group in Colorado Springs who have been broken open with a targeted mass shooting in one of their sanctuaries. As we grieve, I know we hunger for justice-oriented measures that protect targeted communities. Tomorrow as you offer grace and gratitude, perhaps take a moment to hold all who have been impacted in your embrace, as together we grope to find God amidst our pain.
If Durham is your gathering locale, let me encourage you to join us on Sunday, November 27 as we mark the first Sunday in Advent. Our desire this year is to bring back Pilgrim’s liturgical traditions in full force, beginning with our Hanging of the Greens service followed by AdventFest Fellowship. As Felix, Franklin, Sandy and I fluffed the fellowship narthex and hall trees, rearranging as we went, the energetic sparkle that has carried us through two back-to-back baptisms, we pray will accompany us through the season into Christmas. We have many festivities planned for our beloved community, and we hope you join us for each and every. Our calendar of events is already posted on our website, so please check it out.
Perhaps not a festivity, but one of the most endearing worship experiences of this season will also return for the first time in 3 years. St. Paul Lutheran, Epworth Methodist and Pilgrim will gather anew to mark the (almost) longest night together at Epworth Methodist church on Tuesday, December 20 at 7pm. I pray that Pilgrims far and wide will join with our Lutheran and Methodist siblings to share in this special service of recognition, longing and lament that weave their way through our waiting and watching and hope for God’s inbreaking. More to come.
I wish you all a meaningful and rich Thanksgiving wherever it may be.
