A Letter From Lindy Nov 13

Hello Pilgrims,

How grateful are we for the presence and message from Ketty Thelemaque of Durham CAN last Sunday! Our assignment, about which she asked Pilgrim, was not only to help shape CAN’s purpose for the coming years, but also to become active in CAN’s witnessing. One way we can do so is by joining our fellow faith community members in CAN’s 2020 Turkey Trot, raising monies and awareness for the ways in which we, through our organizing, bear witness on the inequity and injustices that continue to plague our Durham siblings–and change them for the better.

What is CAN’s Annual Turkey Trot Fundraiser and Competition?

This year, our competition will run from November 7th-30th. The competition will look similar to previous Turkey Trots in that every mile walked/ran gets you one point while every dollar donated gets you two points.

However, we made some tweaks this year and extended the deadline to emphasize the foundational practices of CAN's community organizing. For example, you can earn two points for a relational meeting with someone within your institution and four points for a relational meeting with someone outside your institution.

To earn points:

For your mileage or relational meetings, please fill out our Turkey Trot Google Survey, found here. Please only submit activity for one day at a time. If you have multiple days to record, please fill out the form a separate time.

By donating, please visit CAN’s Turkey Trot Donation Page, found here.

Via social media, please share your photos and/or favorite CAN memories and tag us at @DurhamCAN on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. For social media posts, you can earn up to five points per day.

On bonus point days, you can receive:

  • Ten points by attending the Durham City Council Work Session on Thursday, November 10.

  • Twenty points by attending Durham City Council Meeting on Monday, November 21.

  • Double the points for having a relational meeting during the week of November 14th-18th.

  • Double donation points by donating on our first "Giving Wednesday" on November 16.

  • Ten points for a photo at a CAN win site on Monday, November 28.

  • Triple donation points by donating on our last "Giving Wednesday" on November 30.

For more information, you can visit CAN’s Turkey Trot event page.

Pilgrims: let’s trot to the top of the leaderboard!
