A Letter from Lindy June 4

Hi Pilgrims,

Beloved Pilgrims,

I greet you in absentia as I endeavor to live into my sabbatical this June. As promised, the Sabbatical Committee has imagined a powerful journey for you as well. It begins today!

As we began planning, there was one person on my heart to inaugurate our journey together, while apart. Rev. Dr. Lacey Brown, my friend and colleague, Senior Minister at Community UCC reached out to me earlier this year to ask if I might participate in her doctoral thesis. She had endeavored to contemplate the grief impact of the pandemic on the church, more specifically on how pastors had shoulder its weight. Knowing that my story had an unusual component, she wondered if I might trust her to reflect on my journey. Although I had to pray deeply about sharing this vulnerability, I was grateful that ultimately I did as our conversation became transformative to our relationship, bonding us deeply. I could think of no one better than Lacey to help Pilgrim open itself as well.

Lacey has served as the Senior Minister of Community United Church of Christ in Raleigh, NC since May 2020. She is a graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA where she received her Master of Divinity (2012) and Doctor of Ministry (2023) degrees. Her doctoral thesis was on grief and pastoral care in the midst of COVID-19. Lacey is originally from Ft Myers, Florida where her family still resides. She enjoys running, reading, traveling, and cooking for friends. She lives in Raleigh with her partner, Jordyne, and their rambunctious beagle-mix, Fred.

Please join me in extending our embrace to Rev. Dr. Lacey Brown.

with gratitude,
