A Letter from Lindy Jan 29

Pilgrims,

As you will read down the page, we are imagining a reboot for our Aerobic Social Saturday (ASS). We have been offering yoga (thank you Angel!) and Zumba (thank you McKenna!) for six plus months in response to the question I posed last summer about how we should address our collective grief/lethargy.

Felix and I posited that the investments we make in our self care individually might also work for our beloved community. So we started “Attitude of Gratitude” and “ASS” to help motivate us out of our languishing. As one who participated in most of the offerings, I have been grateful for the ways in which they have helped replenish my spirit.

As the months rolled on though, participation has dwindled to just Felix and me on most Saturdays, so we wondered if a reboot was in order. As much as I am indebted to Angel’s gentle guidance and McKenna’s infectious positivity, our hope was for the good of community. Not wanting to let go of our hope for movement and connection to nurture and nourish, we brainstormed anew.

A small group of us (prompted by a pushy pastor) has been contemplating learning how to play pickleball, but haven’t had the wherewithal to organize around our desire. Well, now we have! We have a pickleball instructor willing to lead a beginner’s class to teach us this game sweeping the nation. Our thought is to let these classes be part of a Lenten discipline of intentional movement. To begin, we will need to know who, and how many Pilgrims, might be interested in joining us. There will be a cost associated with this activity so we can honor our instructor’s time and talent. We are imagining Saturday mornings for our sessions and our “coach” will help us find a suitable location with an appropriate number of courts based on who signs up.

So what say you? Who would like to learn pickleball as part of our Lenten journey?
