New Director of Music
An Update from the Music Committee
To everything turn, turn, turn...
We have certainly been moving through a season of change! As happy as we all were for our beloved Roman to take next steps in his life, it is never easy to say goodbye, or to face the changes those goodbyes bring. Thankfully, we had interim director Ali Carnes to step in and keep us moving forward. A friend of Roman's, Ali made it her personal mission to care for us, the church Roman loves so dearly. With great love and thoughtful intention, Ali supported the choir and the congregation as we grieved our loss, and helped us find comfort through music and worship. She helped us to find our feet again, and we are so grateful for all she gave, and the season we were able to share with her.
Now, we move into a new season, with some exciting news! We have extended an offer to Pilgrim's next Director of Music: Nick Malinowski! Nick is formally trained as an opera singer, but ultimately decided the professional opera world was not for him. He has previously been a church music director, and also has experience as a public school teacher, and a program director for arts organizations. He currently is the executive director of KidzNotes, a local nonprofit that impacts social change by supporting children's access to and participation in band, orchestra, and choir. Nick is passionate about music's place in worship, and is comfortable with a broad range of musical styles and genres. He has some great out-of-the-box ideas for music at Pilgrim, both for the choir and for the church as a whole. We are excited to start this new season, and to see our music program continue to growing, supporting our beautiful, ever changing Pilgrim community. Expect to see Nick on the regular very soon - he'll be starting in February! I invite you all to join me and the rest of the Music Committee in welcoming him to Pilgrim!
There is a season, and a time, to every purpose under heaven...
With love -
