A Letter from Lindy Dec 8
6 Then the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat; the calf and the lion cub will graze together, and a little child will lead them. 7 The cow will feed with the bear; their young will lie down together. The lion will eat hay like the ox. 8 The baby will play next to the den of the cobra, and the toddler will dance over the viper’s nest. 9 There will be no harm, no destruction anywhere in my holy mountain; for as water fills the sea, so the land will be filled with knowledge of Yhwh.
Oh gosh Pilgrim. At the end of a very long Thursday, I erred in opening this week's newsletter to begin composing. As is my way, I first begin by scanning what has been written, sharpening my editing pen to reduce the words on a page like an exacting newspaper editor who counts every character in print. By the end of my scrolling, I was exhausted. So much to read, so much to do in an already full month. With all these comings and goings--each and every worthy of our attention and presence, how does one carve out the space to attune eyes, ears, hearts and minds to await the coming of the Human One?
Do we need to seek the darkness, as our Advent journey guide, Richard Rohr suggests, for it is only therein that the light within each of us can be illumined? Or do we turn to scripture, as my other Advent companion, Jan Richardson invites, so that it may be our guide along the way, even as we venture where there appears to be no road?
As I carefully scrolled up and down the newsletter, my eyes came to rest on Sunday's scripture which offered me a glimpse of where this journey hopes to lead us....to a holy mountain... where there will be no harm or destruction....and the land that surrounds us ...filled with the knowledge and presence of the One Who Awaits us.
No wonder like Mary, I made haste back from Orlando this week,
so that I might be on this Advent path with you under the light of our sacred stories.
