Letter from Lindy Oct 10

Beloved Pilgrims,

I will keep my letter short as I hope you will take whatever precious time you have to read the balance of the Newsletter. It is chock-full of all of the ways we are working to live out Jesus’ witness in our place and time--both on and off campus. It is worthy of your time!

I will be on my way to Orlando earlier than expected as Lennox Rae Bellet decided to make an early appearance at 4:36pm on October 7. Many Pilgrims have adapted and adjusted to allow me to step away a few days early, so please join us in worship in person if you feel comfortable doing so. You will notice when you do we have removed the cordons from the pews as we have found you naturally physically distancing in the pews, so we want you to have more room to do so. Let’s keep our COVID protocols strong!

In our team meeting this week, true regret was expressed at the analytical data that accompanies our newsletter platform because it shows us that less than 50% of us even open the email. Funny, even a lesser percentage click on it passing by without opening, so go figure. I know our inboxes are inundated with enticing offers to peruse, but your church newsletter is not trying to lure you in to some flash sale. Rather our hope is the newsletter accomplishes 5 objectives:

  1. To let you know the opportunities to which you are invited (all are always welcome) to join in Pilgrim-centered activities--on the church campus and in our community.

  2. To share events/issues/opportunities we are thinking about, involved in, planning, and want your input as we craft our path forward.

  3. Get you ready for Sunday, however you are showing up to be part of this beloved community.

  4. Offer you food for thought on justice-driven issues about which we collectively have a passion.

  5. With our promise of transparency, share the business of the church, because yes, Pilgrim is both church and business.

Do all five populate each week’s letter? Sometimes but not always. We work to keep the information presented as current as possible while offering save the dates, so you can plan.

Our goal--to create a central, focal point for Pilgrim’s comings and goings, instead of multiple emails. Our hope always is that you feel 1) informed 2) welcomed 3) invited to join in whatever calls your name and/or nudges your spirit.

I pray it so.

grace and peace,
