Letter from Lindy Nov 28
Beloved Pilgrims,
Happy Thanksgiving.
I pray all of you who are traveling do not experience too many delays and congestion with the momentous uptick of holiday travelers and get to your destination safely. For those welcoming larger gatherings of friends and family into your homes, for what may be the first time in 18 months, I pray that whomever you host brings you connection and joy. For those who are keeping the day quiet and low, know your beloved community surrounds you in love.
When Lanny and I first moved to Durham, we began intentionally opting out on Thanksgiving Friday (not that we ever considered shopping on that day before then) to push against the consumeristic thrall of our nation. We discovered, and instantly fell in love with, the Triangle Land Conservancy properties and quickly made them part of our hiking repertoire. This year, it feels especially important to continue to bear such witness as every media outlet seems to be luring us to spend, spend, spend. I find my heart imploring me to have learned, and continue to learn, something about true healing and wholeness from this pandemic journey. Maybe I’ll see you on the trails.
As a final reminder, please enjoy Pilgrim’s Hanging of the Greens, first Sunday of Advent, service from the comfort of your homes to do our part in modeling care and concern for our community amidst. As COVID numbers begin to climb anew, we err on the side of caution and love by staying home this Sunday. I will see you all on December 5th.
For now, I pray you all have pockets of rest and replenishment this weekend.
grace and love,
