A Letter from Lindy Nov 12

Beloved Pilgrims,

Let me use my space for update, explanation and encouragement for the week ahead.

Explanation. It has been a minute since our last pet blessing Sunday. A reminder of our practice: Pilgrim Pet Blessing offers an opportunity for us to celebrate the love we hold for all God’s creatures great and small. If you have a pet that is not afraid of new places and larger gatherings of new people, please bring your beloved animal to worship this Sunday to receive a blessing. If your dear one is fearful of crowds, you could instead bring a photo or memento so that we might bless your beloved in spirit. The blessing will occur just after Prayers for God’s Human Creatures (aka Prayers of the People). I will invite you and your pet forward for you both to receive the blessing of God’s love (already upon you both). Our Deacons will be present to help facilitate the blessing. If your pet would feel safer after the blessing, crated and in a quiet setting, we can place them in various vacant rooms throughout the campus.

Update. During announcements, we named a New Member Sunday celebration for November 19. After our Board of Deacon meeting last night, the collective assessment was that our timing was off as October had been filled with all things sabbatical and we had not offered proper space for invitation, nor had been in conversation, with folks who have been with Pilgrim in community over the past few months. We’d like to do just that. If you have been contemplating being part of a beloved community and/or have developed a relationship with someone at Pilgrim whom you think may be nurtured within our embrace, we ask you to reach out to them, and to the board of Deacons, to form connection. The Deacons, in turn, will also be reaching out to you. If these conversations can happen in the next few weeks, we will quickly lock in a date to celebrate new Pilgrim members.

Encouragement. We are deep in planning for Advent and Christmas, so please hear my all call for possible readers during the season (including Christmas Eve). It is our tradition to share the sacred stories together, using all of our voices. If you are interested in participating in 1) Hanging of the Greens 2) Candle-Lighting ritual 3) Christmas Eve reader, please let me know. It is truly my greatest joy to usher in this season with and through you. I love the multitude of voices that join the angel’s chorus.

I pray our sanctuary will be filled with the sounds of creation this Sunday,
