A Letter from Lindy March 12

Hi Pilgrims,

An embarrassing confession as last Sunday’s announcements were being shared–when Sinead mentioned a Pilgrim workday for this Saturday, my reaction was “we’re having a workday? How did I not know that!” (sort of how I feel that SPRING FORWARD snuck up on us this weekend too!) And I attend the Trustees meeting?! I know I join almost all the monthly Board meetings (and Council), so juggling the many things Pilgrim can sometimes confuse. But how did I miss registering this important event? I asked that very question last night to the Trustees as I sheepishly confessed. Let me just say, you need some pretty thick skin to survive their board meetings (just kidding :) as they had their fun teasing their flaky pastor.

All jokes aside, our workdays are one reflection of why I love serving Pilgrim–because we roll up our sleeves and are the church. It's certainly not the only way we are church, but when we show up and offer a few hours of our time, energy and sweat equity, we are saying in our very being that Pilgrim is us. An enfleshed, incarnate presence–the body of Christ, let’s say. From campus care to worship, we are Christ’s body bearing witness that being church not only matters, but is central to the shaping of our lives. Our care for this beloved community translates through words and actions, and truthfully we have fun getting dirty with a morning’s work–that goes by pretty quickly with lots of movement and laughing along the way.

Alongside the Trustees, Pilgrim’s Creation Justice and Gardening teams will be preparing our campus for Spring. We have such hope of becoming a Creation Justice certified church and the work we are doing on our property become steps toward that goal. The teams and the Board have a wonderful system of grabbing a card with a concrete task that you can take on depending upon your skill set. Have a conflict on Saturday? Let me suggest you come by at the start of the workday, talk with one of the teams, and take a task card that you can accomplish later in the week. Your investment and involvement will be much appreciated!

To add to the energy of the day, our new Music Team has invited the choir (and choir adjacent or anyone who needs an indoor project) to help with a much needed clean up and organization of the choir room, so the space is more inviting of the wonderful folks who weekly bring us joy in music.

So, I invite you to join our collective effort on Saturday in whichever way you feel you can show up and pitch in.

Your presence and participation will be much appreciated.
