A Letter from Lindy June 5

Pentecost Sunday

Pilgrims,

Gosh, these weeks seem to fly by as Felix and I try to populate our calendars with reaching out and connecting with you. There just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to meet with all the folx we want to. And we want to because our visits and connections are a sacred part of being church.

I am always mindful, as we approach Pentecost, that God, through Jesus, did not entrust their mission and ministry and witness to one, rather to a band of disciples, who more often than not had no idea what they were doing. Tripped over each other. Hid in upper rooms in fear. Went back to old ways and patterns.

And time and again, God reached out. Showed up at the lakeshore. Came through locked doors. Breathed peace into their very being. All in the hopes of instilling, encouraging, entrusting God’s hope for God’s beloved people through them.

And that story. That hope. That trust. Has been passed down to us. For us to usher in kindom on earth in our place and time. Like Jesus, it’s about relationships. About connecting. About listening and hearing. About seeing. About believing in each other. About asking questions that tug at our hearts, so that God might whisper and nudge us toward becoming all that God knows we can be.

One beautiful way Pilgrim creates space for God to whisper and nudge is through the Killenberg Scholarship. Each year we open ourselves to receiving applications from those who have educational aspirations that we might support and encourage through the generosity of this fund. The time is now to apply! Actually it should have been last month, but as I am graciously forgiven by our moderator, in COVID, all things move slower, so too has your pastor in putting this invitation out.

If there are any Pilgrims, or Pilgrim adjacent, that would like to apply, please contact Franklin, puccdurham@gmail.com, for an application. As we have just crossed over to June, the scholarship committee will keep the application window open until June 30, so that we might announce and celebrate (and send checks :) by the end of July, as hearts and minds begin turning for the beginning of school.

I can’t wait to see whom God is calling this year.
