A Letter from Lindy Dec 18

Hi Pilgrims,

We have endeavored to bring back Pilgrim traditions this year in the hopes of helping rekindle our passion of being Pilgrims together. One tradition that requires more than Pilgrim participation is our Longest Night service in which we share in this worship with our friends at St. Paul Lutheran and Epworth Methodist churches. We have not gathered in broader community in three years. So it is with delight that I invite Pilgrims far and wide to join together with our Durham siblings on Tuesday, December 20 at 7pm at Epworth Methodist Church to share in this incredibly meaningful ritual.

Our Longest Night service is one that does not draw a huge gathering because it feels so difficult to name and claim the complexity of emotions that this season may evoke. As we take these steps out of pandemic’s grasp, the most beneficial movement we can do together is to attend to the vestiges of grief that continue to surround us, our families, our communities, the world. Gazing at each other through the lens of worship’s gifts–song, prayer, scripture,
Silence–invites God to weave their Holy breath in our through our collective being.

I look forward to greeting you on this longest of nights.
