community

no matter what

* Pilgrim has multiple access points to join our community, either in person or online for hybrid worship. We have 7pm Pub Theology at Namu on Mondays as well. See our events calendar for details on upcoming bible series and other events.

You have a place at Pilgrim.

Our church invites every member to be involved in the life of the church, to feel grounded in a place of personal belonging and faith. We have many entry points for you to become part of this beloved community, where you can share yourself, be held, be challenged, and hold and challenge others.

How do you want to meet others?

  • Fun outings and hobbies? How about a crafting party to get ready for Pride or a hike out in Creation? We’d love to help you find members in our congregation who share your interests too. Within our congregation folks have bonded over all sorts of things from singing in the choir, to games, to hiking, to art, and crafts.

  • Intentional gatherings? The women’s and Christmount retreats are spaces where Pilgrims and friends set aside time and space to be together thoughtfully. Our boards and committees gather most months to bring our church’s mission to life.

  • Intellectual conversation? Pilgrims meet for Pub Theology, every Monday. People have been gathering in pubs and public spaces for ages. For many of us, the pub can be a safe, open space to express doubts and questions, learn from others, and meet people of different backgrounds.

  • Shared identities? Our Proudly Together group is a space for LGBTQ members to enjoy food, fellowship, and mutual support. The church Auxiliary is a space for Pilgrims of all ages but especially those 55+ to meet for devotions, learning, seasonal projects, and lunch too of course.

Where are you in your life?

Within Pilgrim we have outings for folks in many different walks and stages of life, younger adults and young parents, people caring for aging loved ones, elders, and more.

Auxiliary Feb 2023. Auxiliary is a warm circle of spirited Pilgrims who learn and serve together. We are affiliated with women’s groups from the larger Eastern North Carolina Association and UCC Southern Conference, but membership is open to all church members and church friends, female or otherwise!

Learners and tutors at Bilingual Exchange.

Learners and tutors at Bilingual Exchange. We also have special committees based on passions within the congregation. Current examples include our race + equity, and creation justice teams.

Pilgrim is a place to bring your passion as a person who wants to be a force of healing in the world. We feel the weight of the issues our world faces such as climate change, institutionalized racism, homophobia and transphobia, hunger and homelessness, but our faith buoys us forward, keeping our eyes on the good work God is calling us into. Pilgrim seeks to be a place to draw us out of hopelessness and into healing action, joy, hope, and connection.

The groups and events listed here do not cover all of the community building opportunities at Pilgrim, but give you a sense of what is available. If you have a passion you want to share, or a need that you don’t see being addressed, talk to us!
