Rev. Melinda Wood called as Senior Pastor
Rev. Melinda “Lindy” Keenan Wood was called by the Pilgrim UCC congregation on June 25 as our new Senior Pastor. Rev. Wood will arrive at Pilgrim for her first day or work here on September 11 and her first Sunday in worship will be September 18.
On Saturday, June 24th, the long-awaited day finally came: our next settled senior pastor arrived! — for a “visit.” That day, our Fellowship Hall was full of Pilgrims who had come to see the great unveiling — and enjoy the multi-table spread put out by our always fantastic Fellowship Committee.
Rev. Melinda “Lindy” Keenan Wood helped lead our service on Sunday. After worship, our congregation voted to call Rev. Lindy as our next senior pastor, and all God’s Pilgrims cheered.
Our Search Committee recommended Rev. Wood as the best candidate to fulfill the expectations identified by our congregation: effective preacher; helps people develop a spiritual life; effective in planning and leading; person of faith; help people understand and act; is a helpful counselor; makes pastoral calls to people in hospitals, nursing homes and confined to their own homes; works regularly to bring in new members; encourages people to relate their faith to their daily lives; is accept-ing of people with divergent views; is mature and emotionally secure; is compassionate and cares; and deals effectively with conflict.
The Committee was particularly impressed by the special emphasis Rev. Wood places on building and maintaining a diverse community of faith whose members share care and compassion for each other as they seek spiritual grounding for the actions they take to bring expressions of God’s love, care, compassion and justice into their local community and the world at large.
