For those of us who will miss the Pilgrim Women’s Retreat at Fort Caswell, there will be a mini-retreat here at Pilgrim to connect us to the larger group. Please join us on February 28th from 10:30-12. If you like, bring a reading or object you’d like to share: Poetry, Short Stories, Art, Photos, Music. (Consider following the Native American theme of the Women’s Retreat.) We will close with a guided meditation.
Growing out of last year’s theme of “Rest and Restoration”, our love of nature, and our longing for peace and calm, this year’s retreat will explore practices of Native spirituality along the Christian journey.
Registration forms are available beside Mandy’s office. If you plan to attend, please turn in your registration as soon as you can. Space is filling (although we will always make enough room for all)!
They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not troubled, and it does not cease to bear fruit.

For the first 17 years of my life, I lived in the same one-level brick house. (Impressively, we managed to change addresses, anyway: when I was about 10, our “Route” finally got a real street name. A few years later, we got a real Wal-Mart.)
Over the next 13 years, I moved 13 times.
Job announcement: Pilgrim is seeking an organist/accompanist. Here are the details:
At Pilgrim United Church of Christ, an Open and Affirming Congregation, we believe as Augustine (perhaps
apocryphally) did – that singing is like praying twice. Pilgrims believe that music is integral to worship, and
that the diversity of our musical tastes is to be celebrated.
What Binds Us
by Mandy Mizelle
Christians aren’t kidding about the lyrics to “Go, Tell It on the Mountain.” We belt out those lines on Christmas Eve, and over the hills and everywhere we go. For an undetermined amount of time.
On Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00 pm, our volunteers offer to teach English to Hispanics in both group and individual sessions, in our Bilingual Exchange program — and we learn some Spanish in the process. We are also looking for volunteer tutors who are willing to teach once a month on Wednesdays.
Pilgrim has a Faith Team of volunteers who provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to a person formerly incarcerated. Pilgrim’s R&R team invites others to join them in partnership with a person who faces tremendous obstacles when returning back into society.
