News from Durham CAN
Durham CAN was successful in persuading city officials to move forward with an RFQ for the Jackson Street property, with 80% of the units to be affordable housing. Also, county officials agreed to include affordable housing in a development of lots on East Main Street.
Durham CAN clergy met with our new police chief on Sept 27 and discussed visions for our police department: training officers in relational and community work and crisis intervention as well as best practices for situations involving mental illness, incentives for police to live where they work, a citizens’ advisory board, discussing local events and issues, and ending targeted road blocks and check points in Latino communities.
Souls to the Polls will start at First Presbyterian on Oct 22 from 10 am – 12 pm.
