Pilgrims make and serve dinner for 200 on fifth Tuesdays in Durham’s Community Kitchen (about four times a year).
We raise funds every year by participating in CROP walk. Twent-five percent of the funds stay in Durham (for food agencies like Meals on Wheels), and the remaining seventy-five percent goes to Church World Service. Durham, Charlotte and Greensboro are among the five highest-producing CROP walks in the USA.
|CROP walk award
Pilgrim was awarded Golden Sneaker award in 2006-2012 in the small church category by Durham’s CROP walk, for fund raising to help hungry people. Pilgrim’s 2007 CROP walkers raised close to $5000, thanks to our many walkers and contributors.
A team of Pilgrims assist Spanish speakers to learn English as a second language (and we learn some Spanish in the process).
|Share Your Christmas
Every year during Advent, we purchase gifts for several families selected by Durham Social Services as being in need of help. Pilgrims of all ages are involved in putting up an angel tree (and making ornaments!), choosing and wrapping gifts, and delivering to families.
|Mission to Birmingham Alabama
A team of Pilgrims traveled two times to Birmingham Ala. and helped out at Beloved Community Church. To view some of the photos from the trip, click here.We hope to work with them again soon!
|Reconciliation and Reentry
Pilgrim has a Faith Team of volunteers who provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to a person newly-released from prison. For more information about this program, visit the website for the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham.
|In addition, our Young Adults do community service, we manage the Kroger Tapes program that generates food gift certificates for service agencies, we participate in Share Your Christmas, collect offerings for Blanket Sunday, Tools for Hope, the Emergency Energy Fund, One Great Hour of Sharing and Elon Home for Children, we participate in Interfaith Hospitality Network, and raise funds for local charities with our annual dinner and auction.|
