Letter from Lindy Sept 9
|Good morning Pilgrims,
I am so excited for Sunday when we will kick off our “school year” for all Pilgrims. Teachers are ready to help open our hearts and minds to knowing God through the stories of scripture.
We have spent the past two years in discernment about how to meet the educational needs of our community. Mandy and the Christian Education board created conversation and surveys a year ago as they imagined anew how to structure the flow of our school year. This past summer we added listening sessions into the mix and have come up with a trial schedule for this year to see if we accomplish our goals.
Our months will look like this:
- 1st Sunday of the month, we will share in an intergenerational worship for Communion Sunday with everyone staying in the sanctuary.
- 2nd and 4th Sundays our youngest worshippers will depart for Sunday School after the passing of the peace.
- 3rd Sunday will be Penny Sunday and our hope will be to build and grow a children’s worship experience as we call a new Christian Education Minister/Director. As we wait to birth this new ministry, our Youth and Confirmation Class will share their leadership gifts as we worship together.
- When our month includes a 5th Sunday, the children will gather to plan and prepare for dramatic scripture presentations that we will offer seasonally throughout the year.
The Board of Christian Education and I are excited to try on this new schedule and hope you will meet us in our desire to grow something new at Pilgrim. We might experience growing pains, but let’s bear through them together knowing God is in the middle of all we do, shining God’s light of hope and promise.
See you Sunday,
|Sunday’s Scripture: Psalm 146
|Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!
2 I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God all my life long.
3 Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortals, in whom there is no help.
4 When their breath departs, they return to the earth;
on that very day their plans perish.
5 Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God,
6 who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps faith forever;
7 who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free;
8 the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous.
9 The Lord watches over the strangers;
he upholds the orphan and the widow,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
10 The Lord will reign forever,
your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord!
