Letter from Lindy Aug 19
Our solar panels are installed and we are just waiting for Duke Energy to give their seal of approval, so we can flip the switch and do our small part to reduce our environmental footprint in our corner of the world. With the multitude of ways God’s beloved creation is being harmed, it is incumbent upon people of faith to bear witness, to do their part, to counter act the negative with positive steps. Our solar panels are one such step and I am so grateful that we collectively chose to make such an investment.
Investment it is, as to undertake such a project requires significant capital. We decided as a church to open our wallets together. The board of Trustees asked individuals Pilgrims if they would financial support the church’s effort so as to help defray the overall cost, and we said yes. Our campaign is simple. For every dollar pledged or donated by individuals Pilgrims, the church will match these funds, helping Pilgrim reduce the amount of the loan this project requires.
Duke Energy did its part by pre-approving our rebate. The panels are up and the invoice is in hand. So now is the time for us to faithfully put our words into action. From Tom Heath’s initial appeal, we have received just under $2000 toward our goal of $20,000.
So now, I am asking you to prayerfully ponder. As you drive onto the campus and catch the sun’s reflection bouncing off our panels, how might God be calling you to support our effort? I firmly believe no gift is too small. I also believe that the more people that contribute, the less the financial burden is on each. With the solar panels, we wanted to make a statement about who Pilgrim is. With your gift, you too are making a statement about who you are as a Pilgrim.
In advance, with deep gratitude, thank you.
