Letter from Lindy
Graduation weekend! Mother’s Day! Much opportunity and activity abound all around! What an important time to tether and center in community.
Two parallel concepts commanded my attention this week as we prepared for Sunday. What may be a known concept to you, but new to me came upon my stumbling and fumbling to find a theologically deep and sensitive litany for mother’s day. Acutely aware of the complexity of this designation, I became drawn to the British terminology of “Mothering Day.” Moving from a noun/subject to a verb opened up breath and possibility in a way unlike before.
So too did Richard Rohr’s meditations this week (which I strongly recommend for daily devotion Meditations@cac.org) when he invited his readers to also imagine our triune God as a verb, more than a noun. God as flow, more than substance.
Whether “mothering” or “God-ing”, the invitation and energy is meant for us all to partake– experience and share– for ourselves and with all whom we encounter. I would revel and delight in a world just so.
