Letter from Lindy
We are already in August! Where has our summer gone? When did we slow down to a leisurely stroll or languish carefree by the stream, dipping our fingers in its coolness to guard against the heat of the day? How have June and July already disappeared into our horizon? As I sit to write this note which I had promised Marty would be done yesterday, I am remembering Mandy’s warning that our pace slows to but a crawl and attendance dips to but where 2 or 3 are gathered these three summer months. And God laughs at my folly.
I am sure part of our pace is due to the wonderfully anticipated welcome of Felix as part of our team. I smiled as I looked at the faces of the Christian Education Board Wednesday evening after she laid out the beginnings of our plans for the fall….just the fall 🙂 I had to check in before we concluded because the collective countenance seemed to be deer in the headlights. And even if they were somewhat dumbstruck, it was born out of their communal joy and excitement for how we are imagining deepening our life of faith together. How we are created sacred space for worshippers of all ages. How we are opening ourselves to new ideas and ways of becoming theo-logic. How we are reimagining ways in which we have participated in events and organizations that are more impactful and purposeful.
One could easily get distracted, and or overwhelmed, by our movement, our activity. But I pray that our busyness is anything but the point. I know that crammed schedules, moving in a blur from one activity to the next can seem like a badge of honor and importance to many, but I pray we Pilgrims live into this time as anything but. As I have been reflecting on all of what we are imagining, I hope that in our own unique way we are responding in word and action to Jesus’ underlying invitation in the parable he told the crowd in our gospel text… to become rich in God. I pray it be so!
See you Sunday,
