“The Secret World Inside You”, an exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, will be the focus of a 50+ group trip on Saturday Feb 4. The exhibit fee is $10, $8 for seniors. We will eat at Parkside Cafe in downtown Raleigh near the train station. Please contact Millie Myers if you want to go along — all ages are welcome.
All Pilgrims are invited to meet to identify issues of concern in 2017 in our community, and consider what steps we might take to work towards them, including forming working groups and identify community and individual assets that support our hopes and efforts. We will meet following worship on Sunday Jan 22, and all Pilgrims — both members and regular attendees — are welcome. Extra snacks will be provided.
Our congregation and its members may have a role to play in confronting and turning back policies and acts that do not align with our faith and values. Please join together to put our faith into action.
The Search committee continues to receive and review profiles from candidates for our senior pastor position. They plan to keep the advertisement open at least until the end of January in an attempt to assure a sufficient number of good candidates from which to make the selection. Stronger candidates are being notified of our continued interest. Soon they will begin interviewing. They hope the recruitment process will be completed sometime this spring.
Enjoy these photos from the Christmas pageant on Dec 11 by Mary Anna Hovey, Karen Webbink and Leonard Beeghley. The painting on the altar is by Kim Wheaton.
Remember that there is a poster in Fellowship Hall that tracks the progress of the Committee, and announcements will be made during worship to keep everyone up to date on what is happening.
This year’s Women’s Retreat will reflect on welcoming: What does welcome look like…feel like…to us? How can we continue to be a place of welcome for others and ourselves, folks who are new and those of us who have been at Pilgrim for a while — through all of the twists and turns of life? Rev. Rebecca Reyes, retired minister and social worker, will lead our time together.
As always, there will be both planned and free time and plenty of food, and we will be peaceful, inter-generational, and surrounded by beauty.
Please join us on March 10-12 at Caswell Beach. Registration forms are on the table beside Rev. Mandy’s office.
Anyone is welcome to join this group’s activities, whether you are 50 minus or plus!
Join Claudia Fulshaw at Avila Retreat Center on Friday-Sunday Jan 20-22, 2017 for art, spirit and rest. Welcome your New Year by giving yourself a weekend to consciously immerse yourself in all three. Where does peace sneak up and surprise you? — while doodling? Staring out a window? Being in a group of like-minded souls? Claudia provides Time and space to experience a joyful mix of all three.
Snacks, coffee/tea and all art materials are provided. Full retreat is from 6 pm Friday to 11 am Sunday. Optional mini-retreat is available from 9-5 on Saturday. Contact Claudia for information, details and questions. Final registration deadline is Jan 7.
Let Millie Myers know if you plan to attend so she can make lunch reservations. The plan is to car pool from Pilgrim UCC and return by 6 pm.
The parable of the Good Samaritan provides the theme for this year’s UCC stewardship campaign: “Go and do the same”. It reminds us of Jesus’ story about a man who helped bandage wounds, and provided transportation, shelter and money for upkeep for a wounded traveler.
During the next few weeks, Pilgrims will hear stories about how we provide healing, lodging, nourishment, and financial support to others within the Pilgrim community and our wider communities.
Sunday, Nov 27 is Stewardship Sunday. Please consider how you can help us “Go and do the same” with your pledge of time, talents and treasures.
