Bilingual Exchange Needs You!
Would you like to help Latino immigrants? Would you like to help children? If so, Pilgrim has an opportunity for you! And you don’t need to speak Spanish. Nor do you have to commit for the entire summer. For the third year, Pilgrim’s Bilingual Exchange offers a summer enrichment program for Latino children. During the school year, we tutor about 22 children in grades K – 10. We hope to continue helping these same children during the summer. Our goal is to prevent the loss of English language proficiency and improve the children’s academic skills. We have found that one-on-one tutoring works best for two reasons. First, bonds develop between the tutor and student. Second, each child has different academic and social needs. This program is ideal for retirees, college students, and high schoolers. It constitutes one of the most meaningful gestures our congregation makes toward following in the path of Jesus and acting in Christian concern for the welfare of all people. For details about how you can help, see the handout accompanying the bulletin or contact Mary Anna Hovey.
