Sunday School
During the school year, Sunday morning activities for children immediately follow the children's word in worship. Teams teach ages 2-4, grades K-2, and grades 3-5. During the 9:30 am hour we have a class for adults and children's music at 10:15.
The first day of Sunday School in the fall will be September 12.

Children's Sunday School Team invites you!
We are looking for adults who want to spend a few weeks during the year passing on their fath and spending time with children -- 10 Sundays a year. We will hold new teacher training on Sunday Sept 5 at 9am and then meet together with returning teachers after worship until 1:30pm. Please let Pastor Carla know if you are interested, even if you cannot make it to the training.

Adult Sunday School Sept 12
Join other adults for a conversation about topics for the class for the coming year. The class is jointly led by the participants at 9:30 on Sunday mornings. Childcare is provided. Contact Tom Harris or Kristin Herzog for more information.

Immigration Series
Everyone is invited to a free dinner and discussion series on Wednesday evenings at 5:45 pm beginning Sept 22 entitled "Who are our neighbors?". We will hear speakers with an overview of immigration, first-hand stories of immigrants, legal perspectives, and reform issues. In addition, we will display the award-winning photographs of Jose Galvez, who has spent a lifetime documenting Latino communities in the US. The series will continue on Sept 29 and on Oct 6 and 13.

Electing new board members and officers
There will be a congregational meeting on Sunday Sept 12 in the sanctuary immediately following worship to hear the slate presented by the Nominating Committee and to vote. We will also review some minor changes in the by-laws.

Lunch and reflections on worship experience
On Sunday Sept 19, the congregation is invited to remain after the service for lunch of soup, bread and cookies, followed by a time for reflection in our Deacon care groups about our worship experience. The event will be over by 1:15 pm, and childcare will be provided.

Interested in joining Pilgrim?
We offer conversations to folks interested in joining our church on Sunday Sept 26 and Oct 3 at 9:30am in the Dowdy Room. New member Sunday will be Oct 17.

Pilgrim Visiting and Care
Pilgrim's Care Team is looking for people to join a pool of volunteers who would like to provide urgent or especially needed care to Pilgrims with medical or other temporary needs, and to visit/support people who can't get to church. The Care Team helps with regular visits, phone contacts, food, communion, transportation to the doctor, and other services. Please speak to Rev. Ginger or your deacon for more information or to volunteer.

English Classes
Beginning on Wednesday October 20, from 7:30-9:00 pm, our volunteers offer to teach English to Hispanics in both group and individual sessions, in our Bilingual Exchange program. Childcare is provided.
We are looking for volunteer tutors who are willing to teach once a month on Wednesdays.

Christmount Oct 22-24
All are invited to join in fellowship at the Chrismount retreat center in Black Mountain NC during Fri-Sunday morning, Oct 22-24. Rooms must be reserved by Sept 20 by calling the church office or signing the list outside Fellowship Hall. Activites will be informal, and possibilities include the NC Arboretum in Asheville, the Western NC Farmer's Market, hiking, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, and exploring shops and restaurants. Breakfast and dinner are available at the retreat center.

Community Grief Recovery Group
UNC Hopsitals Bereavement Support Services is offering a free group to anyone grieving a death. The group will meet at United Church of Chapel Hell for 7 weeks beginning Monday Sept 13 from 6:30-8pm. Please contact Heidi Gessner 966-0716 to enroll.

North Carolina Pride
Join us Saturday Sept 25, 2010 for the annual gay, lesbian, bixsexual and transgendered festival on Duke's East Campus. Pilgrim for many years has offered a communion service, maintained an information booth and walked in the parade, and we welcome help with this important ministry. Contact Traci Baker for information or to help.

Life Line Screening
On Tuesday, Oct 5 from 8am-5pm, Pilgrim will host a screening program including stroke/carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease, atrial fibrillation, and osteoporosis. For more information, click here.
